Marije Tolman grew up in a little town near Nijmegen (Netherlands). She studied at the Royal Academy of Graphic Arts in Den Haag (Netherlands) and at the Edinburgh College of Art in Scotland.
Her work is published in the US, Germany, Brazil, Italy, France, Spain, Portugal, South-Africa, Mexico, South Korea, Japan and China. With her picture book ‘the Tree House‘, she won many awards like:

- Bilderbuchpreis Vienna 2011 (Young jury Austria)
- Nominee USBBY 2011 (USA Outstanding international book list)

- Shortlist Golden Owl 2010 (Belgium)
